Xiaomi's Mega Launch Event unveiled the company’s first foldable phone that is packed with innovative features. Xiaomi’s cutting edge Mix series is back with the Mi Mix Fold. The foldable smartphone is equipped with a large 8.01-inch 2K+ flexible internal display and a 6.52-inch external display which means that it has the largest foldable screen on any smartphone to date. The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold comes with Xiaomi’s own Surge C1 Image Signal Processor optimized for professional photography, and sporting the first Liquid Lens seen in a smartphone. Under the hood, Mi Mix Fold has an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, along with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The smartphone also includes a butterfly-type cooling system that has VC liquid cooling, thermal gel, and multilayer graphite sheets, among other heat dissipation methods.

Xiaomi has used a U-shaped hinge design on Mi Mix Fold that brings inward folding - similar to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Huawei Mate X2 5G. There is an 8.01-inch WQHD+ flexible OLED display with 900 nits of peak brightness, 2480 x 1860 pixels resolution, and 4:3 aspect ratio. On the cover side, the phone offers a 6.52-inch AMOLED display with 840 x 2520 pixels resolution, 27:9 aspect ratio, and 900 nits of peak brightness. The inner screen of Mi Mix Fold has a traditional 60Hz refresh rate, while the outer display carries a 90Hz refresh rate. Both screens include support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+ standard, as well as DCI-P3 color gamut. The external display is also capable of doubling resolution of pictures and videos to 1440p.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold is equipped with the latest generation flagship mobile processing platform Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. The most advanced 5nm process improves mobile platform’s CPU, GPU, and AI performance while lowering power consumption. Brand new 3200MHz LPDDR5 memory, combined with UFS 3.1 high-speed flash memory, further supplement Snapdragon 888’s flagship performance. The Mi Mix Fold brings with it an innovative camera feature and it is the world’s first smartphone with Liquid Lens technology, opening the era of bionic photography. The 8MP telephoto Liquid lens camera of the smartphone is a flexible film filled with transparent liquid and it can change its shape like a human eye. The Liquid Lens helps the camera to adjust its optical magnification from 3x to 30x. This technology also helps the camera to achieve a minimum focus distance of just 3cm which allows it to capture faraway objects or take macros. It can maintain the fluid form in an environment from a low of -40°C to a high of 60°C, ensuring stable, long-lasting, and high-quality optics.

The main camera of the Mi Mix Fold has a 108MP sensor, the 1/1.52” ISOCELL HM2, which sits behind a 7P lens. The sensor supports 9-in-1 binning for 2.1 µm pixels. The 13MP ultra wide-angle camera has a 123º field of view and 1.12 µm pixels (f/2.4 aperture) allowing an astounding field-of-view when shooting buildings and scenery. The foldable phone is also equipped with the Surge C1 ISP professional image processing chip developed by Xiaomi. The processor offers high performance without consuming many resources. It also enables an improved 3A algorithm and low-light focus capabilities to bring more accurate autofocus, auto exposure, and auto white balance.

The phone also includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and connectivity options include dual 5G, dual 4G LTE, enhanced Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, an IR Blaster and a USB Type-C port.
